City Tour The city tour commens with a drive along the Nevsky Prospekt towards the Palace Square and the Winter Palace. The Nevskiy Prospekt is the main thorough fare of St.Petersburg that starts from the Admiralty Prospekt and ends at the Alexander Nevskiy Square. It is 4.5 km long and 25-60 meters wide. The part between the Square of Insurrection and the Alexander Nevskiy Square is traditionally called Old Nevskiy Prospect.
The Nevskiy Prospekt appeared in 1710 as two roads in boggy forest leading from the Admiralty and from the Alexander Nevskiy Monastery to the old Novgorod high road. The part from the Admiralty to the present Square of Insurrection was known as a Big Prospekt which was the main entrance to the city. In the thirties of the 18 th century the road was called the Neva Prospekt. In the sixties of the 18 th a single thoroughfare was formed which from the end of the 18 th century acquired the present name of Nevskiy Prospekt.

The tour continues onto the main building of St. Petersburg University, the imposing St. Isaac's Cathedral, The monument to Peter the First, known as the Bronze Horseman and the Mariinsky Palace. Other famous sights include Nikolsky Cathedral, which is an active Russian Orthodox church.
Then you will see Rastrelli Square, the Smolny Cathedral and the Smolny Institute, you will informed about events of the Revolution of 1917. After a drive along the Nevsky Prospekt, we return to the Arts Square, with its beautiful buildings, housing the Mussorgsky Opera and the Ballet Theatre and the Russian Museum.
