Cruiser Aurora

st-petersburg russia - cruiser aurora excursionCruiser AURORA built in St Petersburg in 1897-1900, took an active part in the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-05. It participated in the Tsusima battle, in which most of Russia's Pacific fleet was destroyed.
After the war the ship was used for personnel training and during the October revolution of 1917 gave the signal (by firing a blank shot) to storm of the Winter Palace.

During World War II and the 900-day Siege of Leningrad the guns of the ship were taken down and used on the front line of the city's defenses. After the war the ship was carefully restored and used as a free museum and training ship for cadets of the nearby Nakhimov Navy School.

Here you may see the unique exhibits, relics of naval military fleet and visit the legend military ship, see the conning tower, the radio station and boiler and engine room, where you will hear a story about Russian vessel machinery of the beginning of the 20 th century.

You will see unique cannons of the cruiser and learn about peculiarities of the vessel artillery. Walk on the deck of Cruiser combined with a picturesque view on the Neva river. In the halls of the museum you will learn about the 100-year Cruiser “Aurora” history.

Cruiser "Aurora" is open since 10:30 a.m till 16:00 p.m. Open daily exept Monday and Friday.

Dostoevskiy Tour

st-petersburg dostoevskiy tourDostoevskiy Walk. You will see the “other side” of St Petersburg - old slums areas around the Hay Market, a maze of small lanes and courtyards, straight out of the writer's novels. Sites from Crime and Punishment.

Dostoevskiy Museum - Arranged according to the original interior design of the great writer's last apartment. On display: documents, photographs and personal belongings of the writer. The exhibition outlines Dostoyevsky's life and work.

Dostoevsky Museum is open daily except Mondays and the last Wednesday of every month, since 11:00 a.m. till 5:30 p.m.

Peterhof

peterhof excursion st-petersburgThe Grand palace of Peterhof stands on the hill. Two parks which surround it received the names of Upper & Lower ones.
The most famous part of this ensemble is the Lower Park. With its 173 fountains it makes a strong competition to the French Versailles. On the territory of the Lower Park you find three monumental fountains (one of them comprising the famous Samson). Since the times of Peter the Great remained the so-called joke-fountains - a fun for kids & adults.
For example - a calm park bench: once you sit on it, the jets of water pour over you! There are 5 different types of joke-fountains, all different and unique.

Fountains start to work on the last weekend of May and are closed around the middle of September. The exact dates are different from year to year.

There are 8 museums on the grounds of the park.
Contrary to the Grand Palace with its official-representative great halls Catherine's Block, Marli, Hermitage and Cottage open before you the doors into the private life of Russian tsars.

Museums are open daily except Mondays and the last Tuesday of every month, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The Lower Park (fountains) is open daily, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Tsarskoe Selo and Pavlovsk

st-petersburg excursions - tsarskoe selo pavlovskThe Palace and Park ensemble of Tsarskoe Selo - a former country residence of Russian emperors - is a fascinating monument of the world's architectural and gardening arts of the XVIII-XX centuries. Its three parks occupy the area of 600 ha, on which over 100 architectural constructions rise: from magnificent palaces and grand monuments to intimate pavilions and park sculptures. The compositional center of the Tsarskoselsky ensemble is Catherine's Palace, containing exquisite decorative objects, furniture, Russian and Western-European paintings, unique collections of porcelain, amber, arms, decorative bronze, sculptures etc. Nowadays, the collection of the museum Tsarskoye Selo numbers about 20,000 items. The Tsarskoselsky Lyceum, an elite school established in Russia in the beginning of the XX century for noble families offspring which the great Russian poet A.S.Pushkin attended, is situated next to the palace.
The Catherine's Palace is open daily except Tuesdays and the last Monday of every month, from 10a.m. to 12a.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The exhibition in Alexander's Palace is open daily except Tuesdays, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Pavlovsk is a super palace-and-park ensemble of the late XVIII - beginning of the XIX centuries which was used as a summer residence of the Russian emperor Paul I and his family. The landscape park, one of the largest in Europe, covers the area of 600 ha. The works on the palace-and-park ensemble on the winding banks of the Slavyanka river lasted for 50 years. Architects: Ch.Cameron, V.Brenna, G.Guarenghi, A.Voronikhin, C.Rossi, sculptors M.Kozlovsky, I.Martos, I.Prokofiev, F.Gordeyev, G.Demut-Malinovsky. The formation of the collections of the Pavlovsky Palace was closely connected with the trip of its owners over Europe in 1781-1782. They visited workshops of well-known artists, ordering and acquiring paintings, furniture, bronze articles, silk fabrics, china sets etc. They brought to Russia a large number of antique sculptures from Italy, as well as gifts from European royal courts. The museum also displays an excellent collection of portraits by Russian artists and a number of Pavlovsk landscape paintings and drawings.
The Palace is open daily except Fridays and the first Monday of every month, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
